Unda War TA Blu SOOM

W Art Gallery, Chaguanas Trinidad, May 2022

In Unda War TA Blu SOOM, my first solo exhibition, I delve into the concept of repetition and the layered meanings of producing art from a single moment or vision. Drawing inspiration from digital photography workflow, SOOM (Scan Once, Output Many), refers to an original image that is scanned one time and held in memory for future output, anytime and to any device. Recapturing fleeting, singular moments, this exhibition is a reclamation of dreams and memories that have been glimpsed once but can be experienced in countless ways. It explores how the act of creation can transform a place, a feeling, or a memory, into something both familiar and perpetually new.

Through contemplative line drawings and paintings, I navigate the boundaries of repeatability and production. Each piece represents an exploration of the same place, yet each encounter with it reveals a unique image—a way of decoding a personal visual language.

In these works, I interpret underwater landscapes to explore the fluid beauty and tenacity of life within these shifting, aquatic spaces—places where light bends, colors dissolve, and forms continuously re-emerge. The quiet beauty of blooming within these scenes underscores a strength that is unbound by location or circumstances, celebrating the existence of beauty in the depths and the power of transformation.
